The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is conducted each year to enrol students in some of the most prestigious law universities and institutions in India. The book serves as a comprehensive guide for students preparing to take the exam. The book begins by providing a glimpse of expected level of difficulty through solved papers from years 2012 and 2011. Thereafter, each section from the exam is taken up one after another.
The first section is on Legal Aptitude. It contains discussions from criminal law, contract law, torts, important treaties and conventions, and important Indian acts. This is followed by a detailed overview of the Indian constitution covering all its key aspects such as the preamble, fundamental rights, emergency and special provisions, distribution of power between centre and state, and Indian federalism.
CLAT also tests an applicant’s mastery of the English language, which is discussed in the next section. Various question types have been covered here, including spotting the error, one word substitution, sentence improvement, and ordering of words sentence. Topics from Mathematics are taken up next, covering number system, ratio & proportion, simple and compound interests, geometry, and trigonometry.
The next section deals with questions that test logical reasoning skills of the applicants. Analogies, odd one out, blood relations, sitting arrangement, and syllogisms are only some of the question types discussed here. Finally, a good mix of general knowledge has been provided from History, Geography, Indian Economy, and General Science. Each section is followed by a practice exercise. Five sets of full-length mock test papers are also provided at the end of the book to give students a chance to self-assess their progress.
