The public liability insurance act, 1991 was enacted with the object of providing immediate relief to the victims of accidents that might occur while handling hazardous substances is required under the act to pay specified amounts to the victims an interim relief based on no liability. It is mandatory for every owner handling hazardous substances to take out insurance policies for the purpose.
It is hoped that the book will be found quite useful by the Bench, the Bar, the recipients of compensation, the Insurance companies and their officers throughout India, all those Industrialists who are expected to take Insurance policies under the provisions of this Act and the banks with whom such Industrialists are banking, the Transporters whose carriers are engaged for handling and transportion of such 'hazardous substances'. The officers of Environment Pollution Control Board throughout India and all those who have to do anything with this important branch of law.
