Probation System in India captures the extramural character of law in humanizing the criminal justice system. It believes that rehabilitative measures and the notion that ?every criminal has a future? and their eventual reformative behaviour is essential for society. The probation system acts as a bridge between the harsh realities of our penal laws and the modern trend in penology to humanize criminal law and justice. While deviance and rectitude are believed to coexist under the criminal justice system, the book captures the Parsonian effect of probation laws in structural-functional theory and empirical methodology of India in general and of the state of West Bengal in particular. It offers a discursive analysis of the probation system in resocializing and rehabilitating probationers into the mainstream of society.
