Since the publication of the first edition of this book in the year 1998, there has been a sea change in the Indian Commercial Banking and Development Banking Scenario. The once famed trinity of All India Financial Institutions viz. IDBI, ICICI as well as IFCI have a different look today than what they were in the last decade.
Universal Banking is a reality with institutions serving all sorts of clients under one roof. The commercial banks too are innovating with different products and concepts. Though still sector specific institutions like NABARD, Exim Bank, SIDBI and National Housing Bank continue to play their role, commercial banks have a much larger field than what they had many years back.
This book is divided into the following divisions: The first division deals with the introductory aspects of credit. The second division is about the Universal Banks viz. IDBI and ICICI and Sector Specific Institutions e.g. SIDBI, Exim Bank as well as Specialised and State Level Institutions.
The third division deals with the credit dispensation by the Banks. The next division deals with lending to specific sectors including the Priority Sector and lending for the Export Trade and the last division deals with certain general matters like loan documentation, securitisation and recovery of debts, etc. This book should be a useful referencer for borrowers as well as practitioners of bank borrowing who deal with banks on behalf of their clients.
