Overview:

The present edition has been thoroughly revised, updated and vastly enlarged. The author has added fresh material on old topics. The comprehensive coverage expands the view point of the reader and stimulates to think critically.

The revised edition provides leading cases on the subject as specified in the syllabus alongwith recent decisions of National and International courts. The work discusses recent issues like Rohingya Muslims, UN, Declaration on Child Rights,Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and Rights of Ageing Peoples, Sabarimala judgment, Right to Privacy (Aadhaar), Decriminalisation of adultery, LGBT rights, etc.

International Law and Human Rights by K.C. Joshi is the most comprehensive textbook on the subject. In its 4th edition, the book is thoroughly revised with the latest syllabus. Three new chapters on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, Social Inclusion of Human Rights and Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) have been added.

In Human Rights section of the book, provisions with respect to Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, Whistle Blowers Protection Act, 2011 (17 of 2014) and Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 have been added at appropriate places. Reference has also been made to path-breaking decisions of the Supreme Court of India with reference to human rights, e.g. Sabarimala judgment, right to privacy (Aadhaar), decriminalisation of adultery, LGBT rights among others.

In International Law part of the book, the Chilcot Report on United Kingdom’s Military Action in Iraq War (2003) and surgical operation by India are included. The Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, 2017 is a pious wish of international community and finds place in this edition of the book. Environment continues to be a grave concern of international community and adoption of legally binding Paris Agreement, 2016 is a major achievement. This treaty has been discussed in the book.

The notable features of this book are:

  • Short, accessible chapters so that you can navigate through the book with ease.
  • Fully updated with latest legislative and case law developments.
  • Includes a companion web resource EBC ExplorerTM (www.ebcexplorer.com), powered by SCC Online providing access to important cases, indicated by the Case PilotTM  icons.
  • Find articles on international law and human rights, updates, a discussion forum and a host of free learning resources on EBC ExplorerTM (www.ebcexplorer.com).

This book will be useful to law students, academicians as well as to judges and lawyers and anyone who is interested in reading about the subject.

REVIEWS

"Case Plot" feature is exceptionally good and sets this book apart from other textbooks on this subject. Wish this book is further expended and brought out in the form of two separate books/ parts each dealing with IL and HRs separately. Would definitely love to recommend this book for the library.
