Lectures on Labour Law

Professor V.B. Coutinho, has been teaching law for over four decades. He has been the Principal, University Law College, Bengaluru; Dean, Faculty of Law, Bangalore University; Vice-Chancellor, Gulbarga University; the first Director of Legal Studies, Bar Council of India. He is presently Vice-Chancellor of Garden City University, Bangalore.

The learned author has written the book with the primary objective of making the understanding of labour law and the grasping of its fundamentals easy for law students. The author has put forth in this work, his intense and deep study of the subject of labour law and his 40 years of experience in teaching it. The work provides the gist and important aspects of the topics/issues involved in the labour law legislations in simple terms supported with illustrations for the complete understanding of the law. The work is written topic-wise for a more comprehensive and complete understanding of the subject.

Lectures on Labour Law by Prof. V.B. Coutinho puts forth in simple terms the gist and important aspects of the topics/issues involved in labour legislations. The book has been written with an intent to train the students both in the analysis and application of the statutory law and the case law.

This volume consists of 12 lectures. These lectures will help the students understand the important aspects of labour legislation, such as, settlement of industrial disputes; payment of compensation; protection and control of special class of labour as, children, adolescents and women; challenge for the employer to provide safe place of work and excellent environment to help productivity. Further, the lectures discuss safeguarding the rights to organise through trade unions and resolve disputes through collective bargaining; protecting the rights of the employer not to be unduly harassed and disturbed in the production process; and the need for timely reforms to be introduced to ensure that labour law is abreast of the developments the world over.
