This comprehensive volume, by the well-known author whose many books on labour laws adorn the shelves of most labour law practitioners and others interested in labour laws, is a section-wise detailed commentary on this important Act. Case-law has been profusely cited under the relevant sections and attempt has been made to give important cases. State Amendments to the Act are given under each section. The Schedule to the Act under Sections 2(g) and 27, gives the list of the various employments covered by the Act. The amendments made to this schedule by various States from time to time adding, exempting or amending various employments, have also been given. A new case-law and statute law supplement has been added to the book bringing it up-to-date till 2003.

The book also provides the Minimum Wages (Central) Rules, 1950 alongwith the various forms. A very useful subject-index will help the reader to locate his subject matter, quickly and effortlessly.

  • Lawyer : This volume contains a detailed discussion on each section with up-to-date case laws. Legislative reference and state amendments have been given at the foot of each section. There has been a thorough analysis of sections with reference to decided cases of the Apex Court as well as different High Courts. In depth study made by the author is discernible from a reading of the commentary a must for the Bench and the Bar besides others who are concerned with the interpretation of the provisions of the Act.
  • National Institute of Construction Management and Research : The book under review contains an introduction to the Minimum Wages Act, a historical introspection of minimum wages in India, views of the Royal Commission on Labour in India, socio-economic approach to wage fixation, and main features of the Act and so on. The book provides a detailed commentary to all 31 sections of the Act.

    The Special Feature of the book is a detailed coverage of judgments pronounced by different High Courts and Supreme Court regarding the minimum wages concept, constitutionality of the Act and interpretation of the various provisions of the Act.
