This book is the result of the Rule of Law Symposium that was convened in Singapore in May 2014 to consider the implications of the rule of law for development both in the South-East Asia region and globally.
The chapters in this book represent a conversation between senior judges, scholars and lawyers from the worlds of business and private practice.
There are four thematic sections, which address: the rule of law and development from a legal and policy perspective; the implications of the rule of law for business and finance; the rule of law in international investment disputes; and judicial reflections from the past or present heads of the Judiciary in England and Wales, Hong Kong and Singapore. The thematic sections are followed by individual contributions from former UN Legal Counsel, Ambassador Patricia O’Brien; Singapore’s Minister for Law and Foreign Affairs, Mr K Shanmugam, and The Honourable Solicitor-General Lionel Yee.
