Overview:

The Crown Court Index 2014 provides an index of common penalties and formalities in cases tried on indictment or committed for sentence in the Crown Court, as well as appeals in criminal proceedings.
This edition includes coverage of:

  • The Crime and Courts Act 2013
  • Subsidiary legislation on legal aid and public funding enacted under the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment Act 2012, including references to the Criminal Legal Aid Manual
  • The Lord Chief Justice’s Criminal Practice Directions coming into force on 7 October
  • The Lord Chief Justice’s Practice Direction on Costs in Criminal Cases which supersedes that of 2010
  • The 2013 amendments to the Criminal Procedure Rules

The new Criminal Practice Directions have been wholly revised in line with changes to the law and to best practice with some additional directions added. The Practice Directions have also been re-structured to integrate with, and complement, the corresponding Parts of the Criminal Procedure Rules.

Of particular practical importance are the new directions in relation to:

  • The treatment of vulnerable witnesses and accused
  • Investigation orders and warrants, complementing the new Rules at Part 6
  • Reporting restrictions, amended so as to refer to all reporting restrictions, not just those under section 4(2) of the Contempt of Court Act 1981, and
drawing on the recent judgment in R (Press Association) v Cambridge Crown Court [2012] EWCA Crim 2434
  • Jurors, revised and extended to include further detail about directing the jury, in particular in relation to the internet
  • Victim personal statements, families bereaved in consequence of crime and community impact statements, revised to take account of the judgment in R v Perkins  [2013] EWCA Crim 323

There has been also extensive updating of other sections in the light of the 2013 authorities up to the 28th October 2013.

This eBook and hardback bundle contains the hardback and also a NEW eBook - ProView format.
